A multi-discipline combat-sports facility in Cherngtalay: four full-sized Muay Thai rings, a regulation 9×9 m MMA cage, FUJIMATS-grade training mats, full strength and conditioning room, and an air-conditioned upper-level mat space. 400 m from Bang Tao Beach.
Bangtao Muay Thai & MMA opened in April 2022, founded by Andrew “Woody” Wood, Alex Schild and the Hickman brothers, George and Frank, coaches who had worked at the top of MMA preparation across Tiger Muay Thai before opening their own facility. The build had to support that level of athlete: full-sized rings, professional-grade matting across multiple zones, equipment that holds up under daily high-intensity training.
The site is designed around two distinct Muay Thai areas, one for the resident fight team, one for the wider customer programme, plus a dedicated MMA / BJJ matted zone, a strength and conditioning room with BUILT STRONG free weights and dumbbells, and Concept 2 indoor rowers and ASSAULT FITNESS aerodyne cycles. A second level was added above the front offices to expand the matted training area with a fully air-conditioned space.
A combat-sports build is structurally specific. Mat areas need to take repeated falls and rolls; ring pads need to mount square and stay square; lighting has to be even across uneven training equipment. Photography from the operator's facility tour.
Cherngtalay sub-district. Year-round operating hours, multi-discipline classes from 7am.
Combat-sports facilities are unforgiving builds. The mat surface has to be flat, level and bonded; the ring posts and cage panels have to mount to spec and stay square through years of impact training; the structural cover has to keep airflow moving over high-intensity output without creating draughts on the mat. C:B coordinates the structural, mechanical and finish trades so that every component reads to spec on the day it opens, and on the date it set.
The facility's customer base ranges from holiday training through to full-time professional fighters. Past visitors include UFC Featherweight Champion Alex Volkanovski (who described it as “literally training in paradise”) and former UFC Middleweight Champion Michael “The Count” Bisping. Resident coaches have prepared current UFC champions for title fights from this floor.
Literally training in paradise. Where we are now, it's like a holiday.
